One Bad Egg
“It only takes one bad egg to spoil the bunch.”
The same can be true of the online reputation for your small business.
It only takes ONE unhappy customer to find his or her way online to sites like Yelp, Angies List, City Search, Google, Bing, Four Square, etc to leave a nasty review about you and your business.
These Review Sites have given our customers a MEGAPHONE where they can share what they think about your business with the entire world….
This can be really good for you or really bad…
It doesn’t matter that 99.9% of your customers are happy about the service they get – it only takes ONE customer to tarnish your online reputation.
(even worse, there is a disturbing trend where jealous competitors and unscruplous companies will publish FAKE negative reviews about your business knowing it will hurt your business – some even demand payment to take their fake reviews down).
Did you know that 80% of consumers say NEGATIVE information online has made them change their minds about purchasing a product or service from a particular business?
This could be happeneing to you and you may not even know it…
In fact, I showed a business owner the other day that the ONLY review they had online was someone who TRASHED them online…
This is NOT what you want potential customers who Google your business to see…
If you have a negative review online it could be costing you a lot of money.
How To See What Your Online Reputation Is…
Want to see what people are saying about your business? Simply Google your Business Name to see what the word on the street is.
You should also Google “Your Business Name Reviews” as that will produce some potentially different results.
A Word Of Warning…
Don’t feel safe and happy if you don’t have ANY reviews – positive or negative.
That’s not a good place to be either.
The reputation of your business could be tarnished in a Split Second by somone with a vendetta against you or by some pissed off customer with internet access…
The good news is that 87% of consumers say a favorable review has confirmed their decision to purchase (yay!).
A Harvard Business School study showed that each additional star rating on Yelp review equates to 5-9% increase in revenue.
Makes a good case to proactively work on cranking up your online reputation eh? The better your rating online the more money you can make.
Make no mistake, your potential customers ARE Googling your business and looking for reviews about you online – the question is what are they seeing?
Are you showing up the way you SHOULD be showing up?
I don’t want to just leave you hanging so I’ve put together some tips to help you start improving your online reputation.
3 Tips To Create A Stellar Online Reputation For Your Business
1. Claim or Create Citation Sites for your business. First and foremost you need to Claim the citation sites for your business. YOu may be wondering what a Citation site is. Basically its any site that lists your business name, address, and phone number.
Some even include descriptions about your business, your website URL, pictures, and even videos. My advice is ALWAYS to claim or create profiles on as many of the relevant citation sites as possible because Google is looking at these to confirm you have a legitimate business.
You should want to make it easy for Google to find you so Google can in turn, help potential customers looking for what you offer FIND YOU!
FYI – Our “Local Buzz” service can help you with that but you can also do it yourself pretty easily.
Here are some of the important ones you should claim:

2. Start Asking. Most businesses just don’t ask their customers for Feedback.
My advice is to simply start asking the 99.9% of your happy customers to go online and leave a review.
Ask them to go to Yelp, Angies List, Google, Bing, etc and leave a review. You can go a LONG way towards improving your online reputation by asking customers you KNOW had a great experience to spread the word about you.
3. Use our super sweet “Positive Review Engine” service to put your positive reviews on steroids.
2. What This IS NOT…
I want to be 100% clear on something and be sure to tell you what this service is NOT…
-It’s NOT incentivizing people to leave reviews for you (don’t do this – it will get you in trouble with the Review sites. They DO NOT allow this).
-It’s NOT paying people who have never done business with you to leave Fake reviews for you… (you should NEVER, EVER, EVER do this… You will get caught, you will be labelled a CHEATER, and it WILL hurt your online reputation. You could even be sued by your local Attorney General – you don’t want or need that…)
What we are talking about is a System that gets your happy customers to share what they feel online…
If you put the power of a positive “REVIEW ENGINE” on the side of your business you can solve this problem without you lifting a finger.
