ATLAS ACADEMY CASE STUDY

Atlas Academy Video Production

Atlas Academy is a Montessori school located in Dracut, MA. Founded by Michael and Iara Gustafson in June 2018, they have continued to grow their classrooms and capacity each year and plan to continue to do so so that eventually, they teach children at all stages of their grade school education.

 

When we first spoke with Mike Gustafson of Atlas Academy, it was obvious how passionate he is about childhood education. Earning a Master’s degree in Education wasn’t enough for “Mr. G” as his students refer to him. He and his wife wanted more for their two children, and that was the catalyst for Atlas Academy.

Capturing the Essence Of The School

Mike’s number one focus is on the students at his school, and giving them the best education he can by outfitting his facility with the necessary resources, and a top notch staff. We’ve all heard the stories of heroic teachers putting in extra hours to serve their kids, but when you own the school as well, there are many hours after the school day ends.

 

There’s something very special happening within the walls of Atlas Academy, and we set out to tell that story with a professional video for Mike and his staff. To help them fulfill their mission in making a difference in their community and in the lives of the children there.

When we were setting up our gear for the day, a parent dropping off their child noticed my camera. “This is the best school in Massachusetts!” the man shouted as he climbed back into his car. If only our cameras had been rolling for that sound bite!

 

Luckily the same sentiment was echoed by all of the parents and students we put in front of our camera throughout the day. One mother telling us they travel over an hour each way, 5 days a week to bring their daughter to Atlas. When we asked the 2nd grader if the long ride was worth it, without hesitation she gave us a big smile and a nod of her head “yes!”

The Final Step: Turning Raw Footage Into A Finished Product

After hours of filming, the next step in any video project is the editing. This is where the art of storytelling really comes into play since there’s hours of footage to squeeze into a 2-3 minute video.

 

Editing time typically averages 2-3x filming time. That means for a 6 hour day on location, you’re looking at 12- 18 hours of editing.
